The system you describe that seems would work well - patients taking more responsibility for their own care, paramedics being able to turn them away to call an after hours GP - sounds like what I read about on a German Medic's blog as what they have in place. It sounds sensible. But I feel like you would have to take every single drinker and put them in a reality tv show to prove to them how much binge drinking clogs up the EDs and gets in the way of helping others in need. And I don't think the BBC has the budget for that.

Thanks for writing well, I'll keep reading.Janeynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498194182629204271.post-85912721558574634882015-03-25T10:13:37.969+00:002015-03-25T10:13:37.969+00:00"People are smart, the public is dumb"
..."People are smart, the public is dumb"

I can't remember who first said that but no truer words have ever been said. I'm sure all "sensible" people know what the problems are even if they don't want to voice them (maybe they know they are part of the problem). Unfortunately the none sensible people seem to be the most vocal, most likely because they have too few brain cells to know when to shut their vocal rear ends.

Keep fighting the good fight and making a real difference.Derek Bnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5498194182629204271.post-74544415616300281002015-02-18T11:30:28.584+00:002015-02-18T11:30:28.584+00:00Do you subscribe to any other websites about this?...Do you subscribe to any other websites about this? I don't know.
You suggestion to fine binge drinkers is a good one.
I've been reading your blog for quite a while, and it is clear that people that drink too much take so much of your time. And you also have to deal with their aggressiveness.

I wish you well. It pains me that, doing the job that you have a true vocation for, you are forced to be confronted to so much nonsense.
The NHS needs people like you.Munoreply@blogger.com
